Loving the Adrenaline Rush

Hands sweating. Blood pumping. Heart accelerating. Sound familiar? That’s because it is. You’ve experienced this in your life before. The adrenaline rush. Your brain either feels threatened or excited, thus causing your heart to beat much faster than usual. Here I’m talking about the thrilled feeling you get when you take a risk, and get out of your comfort zone.  This is about when your heart feels like it’s about to jump out of your chest. If you’re a risk taker, you love this feeling: you live for this feeling. If you don’t like this feeling, then you should probably not include these experiences in your bucket list.

Bucket List #14 – Paragliding

This is the act of flying freely in a paraglide. You need to do this in the summer because the winter is risky due to the extreme wind conditions. You can be wild, but you also have to be careful. I almost did this when I went on vacation in Lebanon the summer that just passed. Then I realized I didn’t have a ride to get there and none of my cousins who could drive me there were supportive of, how they put it, “trying to kill yourself jumping off a mountain”. But what people don’t realize is that paragliding is not jumping off a mountain. Paragliding is letting the wind inflate the paraglide and floating into the air. It sounds quite calming actually, though your heart may feel like it’s about to leap out of your chest.

I want to be that high up on a mountain, getting ready to walk right off the edge. I want to feel the warm air against my face as I rush towards the edge, feeling my heart start to accelerate as I realize what I’m about to do. I want to hold the rail of the paraglide tightly as I jump off the mountain and feel the wind inflate the paraglide. I’ll float softly into the air with the support of the paraglide. I want to control the paraglide, leaning myself to the left or right to turn or bending forward to speed up. When it’s done, I’ll land softly onto the ground, with a proud smile on my face knowing that I just daringly accomplished one of my goals.

So, whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or just someone who likes to take risks once in a while, you won’t regret going paragliding. And although I couldn’t paraglide in summer 2016, I’m definitely going to feel the rush in summer 2017.

Bucket List #15 – Zip lining

Get ready my fellow thrill seekers for this adventure. Zip lining is bound to get your heart racing one hundred miles per second. I can’t wait to get strapped in a harness and zip on a cable high above the ground. I’ll strap on the harness and pull it tight, securing it around my waist. Lifting my feet off the ground, I’ll push myself off the safety ledge. As soon as I’m off the ledge, the wind will come whooshing towards my face, pushing my hair back. My vision will blur from the wind, causing my eyes to tear up. With the wind blowing through my hair and on face, I’ll feel like I’m flying but I’ll know that I’m still safe because I’m straddled by the harness. My heart will be pounding so hard that I’ll be able to faintly hear it. I’ll watch the trees and people underneath me rushing past as I glide towards the landing platform.

If you want to feel the rush that you get from zip lining, add it to your bucket list. You should google zip lining and find the nearest one near you – there’s actually quite a lot and you’ll be surprised by how close they are to you!

Bucket List #16 – Standing on the Edge of a Cliff

This may not sound as heart accelerating as paragliding and zip lining, but believe me when I tell you it will definitely get your heart beating faster. Either from the kick of being so close to falling off a cliff or just from being so high up, silently watching the world beneath you. I always try to find a cliff whenever I’m out and about in nature. This past summer, I found the highest cliff in Lebanon and stood there, stretching out my arms, feeling the warm wind against me. It was simple yet thrilling. I felt like I was about to fall but I was at a safe enough distance where I wouldn’t. And as cliché as this sounds, I actually did feel like I was on top of the world. Or maybe I was just high off the rush. I’m not sure. Either way, it made my heart beat faster (in a good way). You need to try it out. The best part of this bucket list achievement is that it’s totally free! Just go out and explore your city and find any cliff you want.

Have you had any heart accelerating experiences that you want other people to try out as well? Or do you have adrenaline rush adventures that you still haven’t done but you’re getting ready to achieve? I’m always looking for new journeys and I’m sure a lot of other people would also love to hear different ideas! Share your life explorations (and ideas) below!
